What happens when you can't delete a photo right away, capture twenty different versions, or modify the image later? Instant photography encourages you to slow down, observe carefully, and embrace the unexpected.

In this hands-on workshop, you will discover the creative potential of instant photography and learn to maximise its use. No prior photography experience is required: we'll begin with the fundamentals, covering the history of this photographic format, how instant cameras and film operate today, and what distinguishes this medium from digital photography.

You will learn how to approach a photograph before pressing the shutter, focusing on light, distance, focus, and composition. We will also explore working within the limitations of instant film and why imperfections, surprises, and happy accidents can enhance the creative process. Additionally, we will look at some examples from various artists to see how instant photography can be used creatively and find inspiration in their work.

Then it is time to experiment. You will work with different instant cameras and put what you have learned into practice, trying techniques such as multiple exposure, in which two or more images are combined within a single photograph. Rather than aiming for the "perfect" picture, you will be encouraged to experiment, play and see what happens when you give up some control.

As the photographs develop, we'll review the results together and discuss what worked and what could be improved. In the end, you'll create a small handmade photo-card from one of your images, combining it with drawing, writing, and decorative elements such as glitter and stickers.

By the end, you'll have a deeper understanding of instant photography and its philosophy, along with practical skills for further experimentation, plus a small physical memory to take home.

For whom
Beginners and anyone curious about instant photography and creative experimentation. No previous experience or your own instant camera is required, but if you have one, feel free to bring it.

Jouw docent

I love the unpredictability of instant photography: the experimentation, the mistakes, and the times when it ends up completely different from what you expected. Through my workshops, I want to share that feeling with others and create a friendly space where people can step away from screens, try something new, meet others, and simply enjoy being creative.
